DOE Releases Funding Opportunity for Solid-State Lighting Product Development
The U.S. Department of Energy released the Solid-State Lighting (SSL) Product Development funding opportunity on November 22, 2005. The National Energy Technology Laboratory (Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Building Technologies Program) is soliciting applications in support of this SSL program area.
The release marks the second SSL Product Development funding opportunity offered in the last two years, and follows closely behind its sister opportunity for Core Technology Research. The objective of the Product Development opportunity is to solicit applications from industrial organizations to examine certain high-priority product development activities that will advance the state-of-the-art of SSL used for general illumination applications.
Product development is the systematic use of knowledge gained from basic and applied research to develop or improve commercially viable materials, devices, or systems. Technical activities are to be focused on a targeted market application with fully defined price, efficacy, and other performance parameters necessary for success of the proposed product. The Program Areas of Interest defined in the funding opportunity target technological advances in both Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs).
