German medical system maker Trumph has developed a new LED lamp for use in hospital operating rooms, according to a recent report in LEDs in Lighting and Display News.

Called iLED the system has been tested so far in two hospitals in Germany and one in Austria, with more trials planned for the coming month.

General availability is planned for April 2006. Although the lamp is planned primarily for use in operating rooms, it is also suitable for other purposes such as pathology rooms and doctor’s surgeries, according to a company spokesperson.

Several of the iLED’s features should help doctors. The first is the ability to adjust the lamp’s color temperature and quality of the light emitted.
