Larger LCD Displays Backlit Will Grow Rapidly
LEDs are currently light less than 1 percent of large LCD displays that are 10-inches or more, Displaybank, the Japanese market research firm reports. The main issue slowing the adoption of LED backlighting for larger (than 10-inches) LCD is price.
However, because LED backlighting offers tremendous advantages in terms of its color range and its low power consumption, demand for LED backlighting for LCD displays, TVs, and notebooks will continue to increase. This will ultimately drive prices down, Displaybank says.
By the end of 2007, about 1.5 percent of the larger LCD market will be made of products backlit with LEDs. This would mean a roughly 50 percent increase in a 9-month time period. The explosive growth of the LED backlight unit market for larger LCD displays will not stop there, the company said. In 2010, about 14.1 percent of the larger LCD products will be backlit with LEDs, according to a report by Displaybank. |
