Osram Enters Cross Licensing Agreement with Seoul Semiconductor

Osram Opto Semiconductors has granted Seoul Semiconductor a license to manufacture and sell white LEDs with a conversion technology using patents owned by Osram, according to LightTimes.com Seoul Semiconductor will in return grant Osram a license to use packaging (housing) patents owned by Seoul Semiconductor. Osram developed the conversion technology that enables the production of white LEDs using a blue indium gallium nitride (InGaN) LED and a suitable fluorescent converter. Under the agreement Seoul Semiconductor is granted the right to use this Osram IP in all sizes of white LEDs in all output categories and all applications. According to Osram, the agreement will pave the way for closer cooperation between the two companies. Osram points out that it has signed royalty bearing license agreements with several companies including: Rohm, Everlight, Lite-On, Harvatek Vishay, Samsung Electrics, Yashin and Citizen.
